-Author Commentary-

More than anything, this one was cathartic to write. I'd been anticipating Shadow Generations since its announcement, but with how Frontiers turned out, I wasn't entirely confident it'd be any good, so being able to write about it and give it an 8/10 felt great. That aside, I'd been wanting to write a Shame Corner on an archetypal "bad NES game everyone gets gaslit into pretending is great" since the start, and Ninja Gaiden is the perfect embodiment of that sort of game, so that was also a great review to write. The part about Concord was also fun; I didn't mention this for the sake of page space, but a common excuse you hear for why that game failed is "it was €40 while every other hero shooter is free". I do not accept this. Sure, the price definitely didn't help them by any means, but looking at the utterly soulless aesthetic of the whole thing, I don't think most people would even want to play as those awful character designs for free. The numbers show this too, the game's earlier paid beta actually had more players online than the second free one. It might have done slightly better if it was free, but it still would've been a huge failure, and of the new free players, I can't imagine many sticking around for that long.
